Rêve de Jeunesse
When he was still a teenager, René started to create his first wine. Freed from the well defined existing product line, he was able to experiment with his cuvée Rêve de Jeunesse. He gave the Zweigelt a little less priority and pushed international grape varieties, like Syrah, within the blend. In the first years, Syrah was not yet a recognised variety in Austria and so the wine did not receive a test number. This is why the early vintages are called 'Landwein'.
The grapes used for Rêve de Jeunesse grow on gravel, heavy clay and also sand. After the harvest the wine matures in new Barrique-barrels for 18 months.
Vintage 2009
This is the wine's mix:
35% Merlot
35% Cabernet Sauvignon
20% Zweigelt
10% Syrah
This wine shows an impressive deep dark purple colour with a black core. On the nose it is sweet and bloomy with a touch of cinnamon. On the palate Rêve de Jeunesse tastes like sweet cassis and blackberries. The wine seems opulent and powerful, but is still charming. It has enormous, well integrated tannins and an enjoyable extract-sweetness in the finish.
Its time: 2011 - 2026
Its values:
Alcohol: 14% vol
Acidity: 5.4 g/l
Residual sugar: 1 g/l
Superb with strong meat dishes, like beef and lamb, for example. A matured Rêve de Jeunesse is an excellent wine for meditation or goes well with cigars.
